Bookings now open

TR Academy is now taking bookings for kids aged 3–10

Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the very first time or already has some experience on the court, our kids basketball academy is open to everyone and welcomes children of all abilities.

Our goal is simple: to help children develop their basketball skills, improve their fitness and coordination, build confidence and, most importantly, have fun while playing the game.

We offer basketball classes for kids after school and at weekends across two convenient locations in Dublin 11 – Beneavin College and Tolka Rovers. Our classes are easily accessible for families in Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Marino, Finglas, Ballymun, Santry, Coolquay, Fairview, Beaumont, Whitehall and Cabra, as well as families travelling from Stoneybatter, Grangegorman and Kilmore.

Basketball Coaching for Ages 3–10

Our programme is designed specifically around the needs and abilities of younger players. We provide basketball training for children aged 3–10, with sessions adapted to suit different ages and experience levels.

For younger children, our mini basketball classes focus on movement, coordination, basic ball skills and learning through fun games and activities. As children progress, we introduce more basketball-specific skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, movement and teamwork.

Our youth basketball coaching focuses on skill development without putting unnecessary pressure on children. We want every player to enjoy coming to training, whether they dream of becoming a competitive player or simply want to try something new.

Working with Schools Across Dublin 9 & 11

TR Academy has extensive experience working with children through local schools across Dublin. Our coaching has taken place in schools including St. Brigid’s, Sacred Heart, St. Patrick’s, Corpus Christi, Glasnevin Educate Together, NDNSP, Our Lady’s of Victory, St. Canice’s BNS, Mother of Divine Grace, Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin, Glasnevin National School, Gracepark Educate Together and Scoil Mhuire.

Our work in local schools has allowed us to introduce basketball and sports activities to hundreds of children, helping young players discover new skills and develop a love for sport in a fun and welcoming environment.

This experience is a major part of what we bring to our kids basketball academy. We understand how to work with different ages, personalities and ability levels, creating sessions where children can learn, participate and enjoy themselves.

Great Crossover with GAA & Basketball

Basketball is also a fantastic complementary sport for children involved in GAA. The skills developed through basketball can have excellent crossover benefits, particularly when it comes to hand-eye coordination, movement, agility, spatial awareness and ball control.

Many talented GAA players have played basketball when they were younger, using the sport to develop skills that can transfer across to the GAA pitch.

This is an area Coach Praha has particular experience in. Praha has coached basketball within local GAA clubs, including Ballymun Kickhams and Na Fianna, giving our programme a strong understanding of how basketball can complement other sports.

Learn, Develop and Have Fun

At TR Academy, our basketball coaching for beginners and developing players is built around four key areas: skill, development, fun and fitness.

Rather than simply running drills, we use games and engaging activities to help children learn while they play. This keeps sessions energetic and enjoyable while allowing players to develop their basketball abilities naturally.

Our after-school basketball and weekend basketball classes are ideal for children who want to learn a new sport, improve their existing skills, make new friends or simply get active.

If you’re looking for basketball classes in Dublin for children aged 3–10, TR Academy is now accepting bookings. With two Dublin 11 locations, experienced coaching, strong links with local schools and GAA clubs, and a welcoming environment for all abilities, we’re excited to help the next generation of young players discover a love for basketball.

Getting your child involved in basketball at a young age will not only help encourage physical activity, but can also serves as a foundation for staying active for a lifetime. Basketball is often an activity that can be picked up as early as their preschool years, as many have with TR Academy. During their 3rd or 4th class years, they are eligible to play on club teams which allows them to compete against other teams in Dublin. Playing on a team is a great motivator for many, which further boosts their desire to stay active.

According to the EMA it is recommended that children aged 6-18 should get 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily. With various options for basketball classes with TR Academy, playing basketball will allow kids to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily routine with their regular TR Academy classes.

The psychological benefits of sports, team sports like basketball in particular, have been well documented over the years. Aside from the obvious opportunity for you children to make new friends, playing basketball will teach, from a young age, them discipline, work ethic, working with others.

Team sports can help teach a child communication skills, which of course is a lifelong skill.
